Elementary Math 🌐 Homeschooling

Image
Making MATH fun! Yes it can be done! Let’s go outside and see how many things there are to count and divide and multiply. We share the things we have and we learn how math is everywhere!  I am always quick to spot the items in my kitchen for example to assist. Here we used muffin tins to multiply by six. We began with multiplying by ten and one then became more complicated. The kids loved multiplication so much they wanted to continue on working with numbers into the hundreds! Use what you have! Here we used tamarindo seeds which later we may use for crafting or planting.

Family Unit 🌐 Homeschool

Okay Parents! Trust your instincts! Ask today what to teach and pass along. Let it unfold through a prayer, a ceremony, a song, a walk, a breathing meditation.  Throw out all the expectations cramping your flow and style. Shift and shake yourselves awake! We are not 9 to 5 zombies! We are loving earthlings here to be at peace with nature’s gifts and humanity awakened to see our days spent out of our most true value. How is your day divided? Did it serve you to fulfill health and happiness? Did it nurture you to the core and teach self mastery? Need some ideas to get flowing with? Stay posted as I help to design what a basic educational day can be like. Make it fun for you and for them. Remember the goal is always for the entire family unit to thrive.  A family garden. This is my first suggestion to all families looking to bond and educate. Gardening may be one flower or an altar that everyone takes care of, or a rock garden, or anything you wish to cultivate. You can work w

Community Roots 🌿 Homeschooling

Image
How can parents and kids stay stress free in today’s world? My best answer, and solution is to spend as much time loving yourselves and each other as possible! Yes, self nurture is the greatest tool we can begin with. My favorite practices are guided meditation that expand consciousnesses and soothing the nervous system, yoga, qi gong, dance, music, art, hiking, time in nature, gardening, tea making, healthy food preparations, altar making, and natural building. This is just to name a few broadly. You can add the basic subjects of math, reading, writing, science, geography, health, history, civilization studies right into the flow. It is as simple as folding ingredients gently into a cake batter! Think less stress and don’t go against the natural flow of healing your own energy. Building a homeschool brings us back to basic roots and community. Being a parent in today’s world can bring more stress then good if days are spent far from our kids and we worry about one another’s safety.

New Era of Time 🌐 Homeschooling

Image
Homeschooling can be as natural and fun as you can make it. We do not have to over complicate our educational system. Utilize everyday life as a teaching platform. What is happening in life surrounding us is to be focused on as means to harness strengths and resolve issues of weaknesses. Creating a balance to our lifestyle. Discovering the ways to create a healthy family environment  is the greatest teaching we can offer, so why not educate and learn everyday with each moment a focus on the entire family unit creating a wonderful life. Children are wired to be part of their tribe, not in comparison, sent out into unfamiliar and questionable territories, which this world is currently in a state of digesting the consequences of. Homeschooling can be paced at a natural rythym that suits the family it serves rather then us bending into its systematic or ridged requirements that bring greater imbalance and stress. Why do children need to cramp their hands writing too much, or sit at desks i

Home-School Pencil Sharpening activity with Arajah, Zenairoh, and Selena

Image
This is a pencil sharpening activity we did today.  Pencils do need sharpening.  We use some of the manual style pencil sharpeners.  We try not to use any electrical or high-tech gadgets for pencils.  It is not necessary.  Take a look at some of these traditional, old-fashioned pencil sharpeners.  They need to be bolted down.  But we had them without bolting to a furniture surface.  It would be nice to attach these sharpeners to a school desk or table in the School-House!  Maybe that will be an activity we can do in the near future. Thanks for looking! Now we have pencils for writing and drawing!

Home-School Field Trip to a regional location

Image
These are some pics (images photos) of our recent Home-School Field Trip to a regional location.  In between the snowstorms and Nor-easters, we were able to go on a short travel.  We visited the Poughkeepsie Waryas Park.  It is in the City of Poughkeepsie, NY.  It is at the base of the historic "Franklin D. Roosevelt Bridge" over the Hudson River. The park is a nice location with great recreation for the children to play.  The park is right alongside the Hudsron River, so it is a riverside attraction. It's worth the visit.  Have a good time there. As we did. Maybe we will meet you there!

One Room School-house Symbolic of Home-Schooling

Image
What is a One-room School-house?  It is a concept, taken as a symbol.  What does it symbolize?  It could be somewhat symbolic of the trend of Home-Schooling.  It has multiple layers to what it means.  It stands for the old-fashioned values. It stands for a time long ago in America, U.S.A.  Long ago when common sense prevailed, in more simple times. When the world was not as it is now.  Maybe a yesteryear when things were not as complicated and chaotic.  We long for a Day like that: simple, wholesome, basic good times. Let's find out what it could be like if we revisit that remembrance.  Or call it nostalgia.  Take a look at some images which speak of it:
