Home-School Pencil Sharpening activity with Arajah, Zenairoh, and Selena

Image
This is a pencil sharpening activity we did today.  Pencils do need sharpening.  We use some of the manual style pencil sharpeners.  We try not to use any electrical or high-tech gadgets for pencils.  It is not necessary.  Take a look at some of these traditional, old-fashioned pencil sharpeners.  They need to be bolted down.  But we had them without bolting to a furniture surface.  It would be nice to attach these sharpeners to a school desk or table in the School-House!  Maybe that will be an activity we can do in the near future. Thanks for looking! Now we have pencils for writing and drawing!

Home-School Field Trip to a regional location

Image
These are some pics (images photos) of our recent Home-School Field Trip to a regional location.  In between the snowstorms and Nor-easters, we were able to go on a short travel.  We visited the Poughkeepsie Waryas Park.  It is in the City of Poughkeepsie, NY.  It is at the base of the historic "Franklin D. Roosevelt Bridge" over the Hudson River. The park is a nice location with great recreation for the children to play.  The park is right alongside the Hudsron River, so it is a riverside attraction. It's worth the visit.  Have a good time there. As we did. Maybe we will meet you there!

One Room School-house Symbolic of Home-Schooling

Image
What is a One-room School-house?  It is a concept, taken as a symbol.  What does it symbolize?  It could be somewhat symbolic of the trend of Home-Schooling.  It has multiple layers to what it means.  It stands for the old-fashioned values. It stands for a time long ago in America, U.S.A.  Long ago when common sense prevailed, in more simple times. When the world was not as it is now.  Maybe a yesteryear when things were not as complicated and chaotic.  We long for a Day like that: simple, wholesome, basic good times. Let's find out what it could be like if we revisit that remembrance.  Or call it nostalgia.  Take a look at some images which speak of it:

We do home-school here, you're not alone. It is a good trend.

If you are new to the concept of home-school (not relying upon public school), then you're welcome! You are not alone, we do home-school here. It's a big integral part of life. In fact, it's a trend, definitely on the increase.  As parents, we look at this as being more involved. We are taking responsibility for our children and family is better because of it. We look at it this way - we don't agree with the regular, American lifestyle. By this, we mean the post-modern, high-tech, dysfunctional life of separating each member, segregating and the huge generational gap. Take a good hard look at it, we did and we woke up to the Truth! What's true is that it's not healthy and not efficient and not better. It's surely not the only way to live. It is just one option or type of lifestyle. The other option is to keep family together. Take responsibility for your own. The children are yours. (not the state's, not the religion's, not t

We use technology, but we don't want to depend upon it

Image
Technology is a part of the post-modern world.  This is the civilization we live in, circa 2018.  The inventors and factories are always creating more and new stuff appears every day, it is rapidly changing and always in-flux.  Yet we can decide how we handle this ever-changing situation.  Technology should never rule over us, the robots are not in charge. We also believe that the "articial intelligence" within the computers  (a.k.a. A.I.) will never be better than the human being.  Certainly not better than our true potential; and that is what we should be reaching, not for the lowest common denominator of life.  The lowest common denominator of the human scale would be people who depend on technology and computers to do everything for them.  In other words, they can't think for themselves.  We are not that way! Let's use our brains and think about it!! The BRAIN is a "terrible thing to waste". We accept technology and we use it.  However we are not
